Consumer Extraversion, Novelty Seeking, and Use of Mobile Instant Messaging (MIM)

Mobile instant messaging (MIM) is one of the most influential technologies in society today due to its wide penetration in the world’s population. The present study aims to establish whether two consumer traits, extraversion and novelty seeking, have the potential to explain the intensity of MIM usage by consumers considering its good performance in explaining other consumer behaviors. The present study is based on a survey of 682 adults in Quito, the capital of Ecuador, which is a South American developing country. The data obtained are analyzed with structural equation modeling and establish that while extraversion is not related to the intensity of MIM use, novelty seeking does have a direct and positive effect. Ecuador, a privileged Latin American country recognized for its abundant natural resources and its rich cultural heritage, located in the four natural regions: Coast, Sierra, Oriente and the Insular Region. In this sense, according to the Ministry of the Environment, eleven territories met the requirements to achieve the denomination of National Parks; Llanganates was incorporated in 1996. The objective of this work was the landscape analysis by surveying the natural, anthropic and cultural elements of the Llanganates National Park; the applied methodology was based on a multidisciplinary model, through exploratory, descriptive and explanatory research, the qualitative approach linked to the assessment of landscape components. In addition, the intangible resources constituted by rich legends that emerged with the Spanish conquest, such as the capture and murder in Cajamarca of the Inca Atahualpa, transferred to Quito, and later buried according to expert historians and anthropologists, in the Hacienda Malqui Machay, Sigchos, province from Cotopaxi, a place rich in ruins and multiple Inca vestiges. It is also related that Rumiñahui, half brother and general of the Inca, moved the treasures and hid them in Llanganates, which aroused curiosity and expectation. Finally, the results obtained in the survey of the Biophysical, visual and anthropic components in addition to the cultural legacy are important to expose the great landscape values of the study site. In conclusion, the knowledge and enhancement of iconic places opened a broader perception of the mythical Llanganates National Park. © The author; licensee Universidad de la Costa - CUC.

The doctrine of the lifting of the corporate veil was created precisely to prevent abuses in the use of legal status, and consti-tutes a way that allows creditors to penetrate the patrimony of the partner or shareholder. The objective of this research is: To establish a reflective, critical and legal analysis of the legislation applicable to the lifting of the corporate veil for the execution of work-related sentences in Ecuador. The methodology that was applied was Historical-Legal-descriptive, because it allowed the historical monitoring of the subject of study and through the application of the analytical method. An important fin-ding of this work has been the analysis of cases, where the rights of workers, despite being recognized under a court ruling, cannot be fully enforced, due to having preceded fraudulent maneuvers by members of the legal entity that have simulated legal acts, to hide the assets of the companies and leave the workers unprotected. As a conclusion of the breaking of the hermeticism of the legal entity, it seeks to protect the rights of creditors, with the application of procedural actions regulated by law, and to link unpaid obligations to the assets of natural persons behind the corporate facade. © 2021, University of Cienfuegos, Carlos Rafael Rodriguez. Challenges of Migrating Legacies Web to Mobile: A Systematic Literature Review

The multi-device era comes thanks to mobile computing which gives remote access to resources from anywhere changing the people's life and opening new business opportunities. However, the legacy systems do not render the content properly in mobile devices because they were thought to be only compliant with Web browsers. Economic availability is often the reason why these have not been modernized. This work proposes a systematic literature review about the approaches used for the portabilization or modernization of web 1.0 business applications to mobile devices in the period 2006-2017, from SCOPUS, IEEE, and ACM. The search obtained 824 articles, 44 were selected and classified with respect to focus, scope, type of research and type of contribution. The results obtained allowed us to reach conclusions about the state of the subject and to determine the research gaps, such as the need for better use of the mobile characteristics because the adaptations are mostly basic. In addition, an approach is proposed and compared with the aforementioned them. © 2003-2012 IEEE.

This work presents the kinematic and dynamic modeling of a humanwheelchair system where it is considered that its mass center is not located at the wheels’ axis center of the wheelchair. Furthermore, it is presents a new motion controller for human-wheelchair system that is capable of performing positioning and path-following tasks. The proposed controller has the advantage of simultaneously performing the approximation of the robot to the proposed path by the shortest route and limiting its velocity. This controller design is based on two cascaded subsystems: a kinematic controller with command saturation, and a dynamic controller that compensates the dynamics of the robot. © Springer International Publishing Switzerland 2015.

This qualitative work aimed to understand the social construction of violence in adolescents victims of trafficking for criminal purposes. Four life histories were made, which were analyzed through the dialectical hermeneutic method. The results show three main categories related to social history, family history and personal history. Adolescents have been participants in a violent social and family context, child labor, family violence, socioeconomic precariousness and gender violence, so that the social construction of violence is a determining factor in vulnerability to trafficking. © 2017, Universidad del Zulia. Representation of women in science drops substantially at each career stage, from early student to senior investigator. Disparities in opportunities for women to contribute to research metrics, such as distinguished speaker events and authorship, have been reported in many fields in the U.S.A. and Europe. However, whether female representation in scientific contributions differs in other regions, such as Latin America, is not well understood. In this study, in order to determine whether female authorship is influenced by gender or institutional location of the last (senior) author or by subfield within ecology, we gathered author information from 6849 articles in ten ecological and zoological journals that publish research articles either in or out of Latin America. We found that female authorship has risen marginally since 2002 (27 to 31%), and varies among Latin American countries, but not between Latin America and other regions. Last author gender predicted female co-authorship across all journals and regions, as research groups led by women published with over 60% female co-authors whereas those led by men published with less than 20% female co-authors. Our findings suggest that implicit biases and stereotype threats that women face in male-led laboratories could be sources of female withdrawal and leaky pipelines in ecology and zoology. Accordingly, we encourage every PI to self-evaluate their lifetime percentage of female coauthors. Female role models and cultural shifts–especially by male senior authors–are crucial for female retention and unbiased participation in science. © 2019 Salerno et al. Dynamics of a Unicycle-Type Wheeled Mobile Manipulator Robot

Mathematical modeling is widely used in robotics to display behaviors and design control algorithms; the dynamic model of a robot describes the movements considering the action of internal and external forces of the system. This paper presents the dynamics of a unicycle mobile manipulator robot using the Euler-Lagrange proposal and conditioning the model to obtain the output velocities in the robot from the desired velocities. Additionally, the dynamic model is complemented by the identification of parameters using experimental data obtained from the AKASHA robot. The results present the signals applied in the identification, the values of the dynamic constants are found and the validation data which indicate a correct performance of the proposal are graphically shown. © 2020, Springer Nature Switzerland AG.

Q’inqu: Inclusive Board Game for the Integration of People with Disabilities

The educational inclusion of people with disabilities continues to be a great challenge for society. Due to the field’s diversity and complexity, people with disabilities have few opportunities to be integrated into educational activities or even entertainment. This article describes a novel educational resource developed within the field of applied technologies. Q’inqu is an inclusive board game that encourages the family and educational inclusion of people with disabilities. Q’inqu is a Quechua word meaning “Labyrinth”. This is a metaphor for the challenges faced by families living with a person with disabilities, and it also reflects its narrative structure based on the “Legend of the Incas’ treasure”. Q’inqu has the general theme of a traditional board game where turns are taken until the treasure is found. What makes it different is the integration of inclusive elements through the use of technology. There are cards with a braille code, a rectangular board with high relief, and a circular board with textures. An App reads QR codes and also patterns, which present additional information based on augmented reality. These features provide support to blind players and to those who are unable to read, making the game both entertaining and educational. Q’inqu was developed and tested by a multidisciplinary team of 80 people, which included students and professionals from design, education and pedagogy. The most relevant result was that out of 367 ideas that were presented, it was awarded first prize in the category Toys for children with disabilities in the CMA contest held in Ecuador. © 2020, Springer Nature Switzerland AG.

Virtual environment application that complements the treatment of dyslexia (VEATD) in children

The educational disorders that children present at an early age can cause them to not fully develop throughout their lives. In this research work a 3D virtual system that allows the child who has been diagnosed with dyslexia to complement the exercises performed in a conventional therapy is described. To achieve this an application was developed, the app consists of two games (each with three levels of difficulty), and that are part of the rehabilitation program. In each of these games virtual objects are combined with auditory messages to provide the user with an immersive experience, and to train more than one sense at a time. In the first game task, the activity asks the children to correctly locate the syllables that compose a word and for the second activity the children will listen to a word, after the games asks the children to select the correct word. This tool has been tested by a group of children (eight), with ages ranging from 8 to 12 years old, whose development can be supervised at home by their parents, since it is an intuitive and easy to use interface. The results obtained are stored in a database and in this way the medical specialist can monitor the progress of the child throughout his treatment.
