Item type:Publication, Interfaces and Usability in Digital Flight Logs: Applied Design in the Aeronautical Context(2026)In Ecuador, the management of flight logs is still predominantly conducted in physical format, representing a significant barrier to operational efficiency and aviation safety. This situation highlights an important gap in the availability of digital solutions specifically designed for the local context and validated with real users. This study seeks to address that gap by designing and validating a user interface focused on user experience (UX) principles, aimed at optimizing the flight logging process and improving information quality. The research adopts a qualitative approach with elements of applied research, structured into four phases: requirements gathering through semi-structured interviews, iterative prototyping using Figma, usability testing with the “think aloud” technique, and heuristic evaluation by UX experts. The sample was intentionally selected and included 12 Ecuadorian civilian pilots (6 in training and 6 professionals), all with experience in using physical logbooks and basic familiarity with digital devices. The results show substantial improvements in process efficiency: a 40% reduction in average data entry time, an average of only 1.2 errors per session, and an average System Usability Scale (SUS) score of 89 out of 100, classified as “excellent usability”. 91% of participants expressed high satisfaction with the developed interface, highlighting its intuitive navigation, visual clarity, and offline usability—an essential factor in contexts with limited connectivity. These findings confirm that applying user-centered design principles can produce highly effective and well-accepted digital solutions, even in technical and regulated sectors such as aviation. Item type:Publication, Design of a Semi-automatic Dough Mixer for the Prevention of Occupational Diseases in Marzipan ArtisansOlder people, due to the natural aging process, are particularly vulnerable to occupational tasks, as they experience a gradual loss of physical capacities, which increases the incidence of occupational diseases in this population. Despite these challenges, their experience and skills acquired over the years make them a valuable resource for society. This study focuses on designing a semi-automatic dough sheeter for the dough making process used by the artisans of Calderón in Ecuador, who currently carry out this work manually, this practice being an integral part of the local culture. The research began with a detailed analysis of modern manual molders, collecting data on shear force, bending moment, and tensile stress, which are fundamental to the design. Subsequently, a simulation of the design was carried out using SolidWorks software. The result was the creation of a prototype kneading machine equipped with AISI 1050 steel rollers, processed by HR. This device was able to significantly reduce repetitive hand movements, reducing the effort during the kneading process by 25,000 TMU, which translates into improved health and work performance for the artisans. The implementation of this technology reduced the risk of occupational diseases such as bursitis, which is caused by inflammation of the bursae in the joints, and carpal tunnel syndrome, which affects the functionality of the hands. In addition to the physical benefits, this project also addresses the psychological aspect, as many older craftsmen and women feel demotivated due to their diminished ability to perform tasks they used to do in their youth. The research aims to provide a better quality of life for these workers, protecting both their physical health and emotional well-being. In short, the semi-automatic laminator not only improves the working conditions of the Calderon artisans but also preserves and promotes an important cultural tradition, ensuring that these valuable knowledge and skills can continue to be practiced in a safe and sustainable manner.11 - Some of the metrics are blocked by yourconsent settings

This shift not only neglects the diverse culinary heritage specific to various Ecuadorian regions, but also undermines the potential of traditional foods to attract tourists seeking authentic experiences. Ecuadorian gastronomy, with its unique flavors and textures, offers a window into the country’s cultural practices and history, making it an integral part of the tourism industry, but the gradual loss of this culinary heritage as local preferences evolve poses a threat not only to cultural identity, but also to the economic benefits derived from gastronomic tourism. Using the literature review method, this study collected and analyzed data from various documents highlighting the importance of local cuisine to the tourism sector. The results underline the need to strategically focus on revitalizing and promoting traditional Ecuadorian dishes to counter the influence of global food trends; also, the research delved into the reasons for young people’s inclination toward foreign cultures, suggesting a disconnection with their own cultural roots. It critically examined how this distancing could be reversed by fostering a deeper appreciation and understanding of local traditions. By promoting a reconnection with their gastronomic past, Ecuadorians can leverage their rich culinary heritage as a key asset to boost tourism. This not only enhances the authenticity and attractiveness of the tourism experience, but also supports local economies. Item type:Publication, AN ASSESSMENT OF CUBAN FOOD SECURITY BASED ON THE AGRICULTURAL AREA UNDER CULTIVATION AND AGRICULTURAL YIELDS(2022) ;Cosío, E.C.; ; Cruz, I.A.The research was carried out with official data published in the country, collected from official information sources from 2007 to 2019. In the variables analyzed, the following were considered as having high explanatory power: land distribution, total area, agricultural area, cultivated area, yields of selected crops. For the calculation of the nutritional needs of the population, the nutritional recommendations for the Cuban population were taken into account and the productions were grouped ac-cording to the classification established for the food groups in Cuba. The country’s agricultural area is 6400.18 Mha in 2019, which its use decreases for all the items studied, except for banana, bell pepper, bean, lemon, guava and pump fruit. In addition, yields of the main crops are low, as is the productivity of the livestock sector analyzed. To contribute to the achieve-ment of food security for the Cuban population in correspondence with the standards of the National Institute of Nutrition, an area with technological package (irrigation and optimal yields) of 3942577.82 ha is needed, existing agricultural area in the country; and without technological package (without irrigation), an area of 6424285.82 ha, which are insufficient in 23485 ha. © 2022, University of Cienfuegos, Carlos Rafael Rodriguez. Item type:Publication, Integration of Information Technologies for Smart and Sustainable Management of Personal Protective Equipment WarehousesThe management of Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) warehouses in sectors such as mining is crucial to ensuring safety and operational efficiency, although challenges persist in developing countries such as Ecuador due to a lack of automation and manual processes. This study aimed to analyze the impact of digitization through technologies such as barcode readers and inventory software on PPE logistics management in an Ecuadorian mining company. A mixed approach was used, combining qualitative and quantitative methods, with a descriptive cross-sectional design, collecting data through interviews, observation, and documentary records, and evaluating inventory accuracy, traceability, and automation before and after the intervention. The results showed an increase in inventory accuracy from 82% to 98.7% and traceability improved to nearly 95%, in addition to a 40% reduction in delivery and replenishment times and 15% operational savings (This percentage corresponds mainly to the reduction in costs associated with labor and logistics resources, not including the initial costs of implementing the software). Acceptance of the new system was high, with ratings above 4.5 for ease of use and error reduction. The main conclusion is that digitization in PPE warehouse management significantly optimizes logistics efficiency, improves traceability, and reduces occupational risks, demonstrating its viability and benefits in the Ecuadorian context. Item type:Publication, Integrating Virtual Educational Environments and Social Networks in Learning Entrepreneurship and Social Innovation: A Personal ExperienceIn a global context where social challenges are intensifying, technological innovation in social entrepreneurship is an essential tool to catalyze positive change. This study set out to assess how the integration of advanced technologies can enhance the impact and sustainability of social projects. In this research meticulously designed to ensure replicability, we adopted a qualitative approach, delving into personal experiences and their interaction with consolidated theories of social entrepreneurship and innovation. We used content analysis and case studies, along with workshops and semi-structured interviews to explore the applicability of these theories in practice. The sample included 150 social entrepreneurs and 50 academics, selected to reflect recent and relevant experiences. The main methods of assessment covered the effectiveness of the theories in solving concrete problems and their ability to foster collaboration and sustainability of the projects. The main assessment criterion was the applicability of these theories in real contexts, mainly evaluating how they influence the effectiveness, collaboration and sustainability of the projects. The results indicate that the integration of technologies improves the perception of social impact by 40% and the sustainability of projects by 50%, with a 30% increase in community collaboration and a 45% increase in the efficiency of interventions. The research confirms that technological innovation not only strengthens the social and economic impact of ventures, but also promotes deeper and more effective collaboration among stakeholders. Item type:Publication, Navigating the Health Care Transition for Migrant Women in the Andean Diaspora with Challenges and SolutionsThe study focuses on the integration of migrant women in Andean public health systems, highlighting the persistent challenges despite recent legislative and programmatic advances; through a qualitative approach, using semi-structured interviews, content analysis and case studies, it addresses the cultural, linguistic and structural barriers that still limit the effective access of these women to essential health services. Communication and cultural barriers were identified as the main obstacles faced by these women, significantly affecting the quality of medical care received. The analysis reveals that approximately 85% of migrant women report difficulties in communicating with health personnel, which highlights the need to implement translation services and cultural competency training programs. In addition, it is noted that interventions that integrate cultural and linguistic considerations show a 40% improvement in the effectiveness of medical care. Seventy percent of health professionals recognize resource shortages as a critical constraint to effective service delivery, indicating a significant gap in the health infrastructure that needs to be addressed to improve accessibility and quality of health care. The researchers propose a more holistic and culturally adaptive approach to policy formulation could significantly improve the accessibility and quality of healthcare offered to migrant women. This would include improving coordination between mental and physical health services and implementing more inclusive policies that consider the specific needs of migrant women. The research emphasizes the importance of incorporating multidisciplinary perspectives that address both mental and physical health, as these aspects are deeply interconnected and significantly affect women’s ability to integrate into new social and economic environments. It is stressed that, to improve the health situation of migrant women, it is crucial that future public health programs and policies incorporate a targeted and specialized approach that is sensitive to the cultural and linguistic differences that characterize this population. Item type:Publication, Software and Methods Applied in the Standardization of the Grinding Process for Automobile Engines as a Business SolutionWhen the research addresses the problem of empirical engine rectification based exclusively on the experience of the workers, which results in nonconformities on the part of the customers due to delays in delivery times. To solve this, it was proposed to standardize the operation cycles using the Stop and Observe Method. Through techniques such as direct observation, time studies and process diagrams, the grinding process was analyzed in detail. The data collected were compared with the Crystal Ball program, demonstrating consistency with 95% confidence. It was determined that the time required to rectify an engine was 27.23 days, with supplements affecting 4.8 h of an 8-h workday. The investigation proposed improvements, including the implementation of a hydraulic scissor table to reduce the physical strain on the operators and the introduction of hearing protection. This resulted in a noise reduction from 30 dB to 15 dB, exceeding the regulations of Executive Decree 2393. With these measures, the total grinding time was reduced to 26 days, representing an efficiency gain of 639.15 min or 10.65 h. These climatic changes, allergen variations, and air pollution contribute to trigger allergens that affect bronchial asthma symptoms. In addition, the increase in temperature and carbon dioxide levels in the atmosphere could lead to a more pronounced production of pollen, which leads to the spread of allergens, increasing sensitization and aggravating allergic reactions in children, especially in those who travel to tourist places such as mountains, beaches, hills, moors, among others. Due to the increasing emission of CO2 and other greenhouse gases, both in developed and developing countries, the negative effects on respiratory health, especially asthma and allergies, are becoming increasingly important, especially in young children and the elderly. Both global climate change and air pollution have a detrimental impact on respiratory health, especially in relation to asthma and various allergic diseases. Importantly, increased emissions of CO2 and various greenhouse gases contribute to climate change, resulting in more extreme and damaging weather events, such as periods of extreme heat, prolonged droughts, severe and devastating thunderstorms, floods, and powerful tropical storms. All these extreme weather events have negative consequences for people with asthma.
