Health as a Determining Factor in Economic Progress and Living Conditions in Ecuador

The contributions of health in economic progress contribute to the improvement of people’s living conditions and is a determinant in sustained growth to provide advances and improvements in living standards. The objective of the research is to demonstrate how economic capital truly intervenes in the social behavior and living conditions of people, especially in those areas where the population is more vulnerable. A descriptive observational study was conducted from January to July 2023 in the parish of Quisapincha (rural sector), province of Tungurahua, Ecuador. The population consisted of 11,581 people and the sample consisted of 116 people chosen by non-probabilistic convenience sampling. A structured questionnaire was applied personally to collect the data. The results denoted that the economic capital and environment of a country represent a future prognosis in the economic coverage to ensure education, health, food, personal privileges that improve the lifestyles of individuals and their families. The results of this research can be useful to evidence the project of local public policies that collaborate to the prevention of diseases as a determining factor in the economic progress and living conditions of individuals in Ecuador

Effect of Internal & External Financing on Labor Productivity – (2009–2014) Panel Data Study of Ecuadorian Companies

This research analyzes the effect of internal and external financing on the labor productivity of Ecuadorian companies from 2009 to 2014. For this purpose, the database of the National Institute of Statistics and Censuses (INEC) is used. In addition, ordinary least squares (MCO) regression for panel data is applied as an estimation strategy. The study focuses on explanatory variables with financial characteristics (external and internal funding) and variables with commercial characteristics (number of employees, source of foreign capital, innovation of new services, and purchasing of machinery and equipment). The results demonstrate that external financing, number of employees, source of foreign capital and purchase of machinery and equipment, all have a positive impact on labor productivity. Internal financing, on the other hand, has no effect on the dependent variable. Meanwhile, the introduction of a new service reduces labor productivity. The Ecuadorian economy presents several barriers that prevent the development of national companies. These obstacles could be a lack of social and scientific awareness, an absence of innovative initiative and technological development, and deficient management of internal and external financing. Therefore, identifying the factors that affect the labor productivity of Ecuadorian companies is a relevant issue for the country's business economic development. Due to this information, the companies could develop capabilities and strategies to stay in the market and improve their competitiveness.

In recent decades, entrepreneurship has experienced a significant increase worldwide, being considered as an important tool to improve the economic growth of a country. This article aims to present an overview of the current situation of entrepreneurship at both national and local levels. The methodology used was descriptive, also a literature review was conducted, the data analyzed came from the National Institute of Statistics and Censuses of the directory of companies for the period 2013–2016, the number of enterprises at the level of Ecuador and specific by province was analyzed. After the analysis, it was concluded that there is a significant increase in micro-enterprises throughout the country, especially in the provinces of Pichincha and Guayas. © 2021, The Author(s), under exclusive license to Springer Nature Switzerland AG.

Technology-Based Companies: The Case of South American Countries

In recent decades, technology-based companies have achieved significant global recognition, given their importance and substantial contribution to the economic and sustainable development of organizations and society at large, through job and wealth creation. The research objective focuses on determining the relationship between technology-based companies and R&D and innovation spending. To meet the objective, the methodology applied was based on the application of Pearson’s correlation coefficient statistical technique, since it allows to obtain an association coefficient between variables that do not behave normally. Being sustainable is considered as part of the DNA of individuals, it is attributed much importance and social connotation because it contributes to the development and growth of countries in a very clear way and this is achieved by being socially responsible to society. In Latin America, the progress achieved in scientific development in the educational sector and technological trends, represents one of the cross-cutting objectives in the scenario of the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) of the 2030 Agenda. The main objective of this research is to highlight the importance of the use of technologies in higher education that contribute to the strengthening of opportunities for social integration. In the methodology we consider a quantitative and qualitative approach that is developed with a literature review of scientific articles, academic books, analysis of materials (reports, brochures) that somehow help to know and reflect on the possibility of carrying out more in-depth studies and with a translucent vision between education and technologies. The results reflect the level of growth in recent times associated with educational technology 4.0, which supports university education in this invasive and timely digital era and thus contribute to develop one of the objectives planned in the 2030 agenda in Latin America. In the conclusions the new trends in digital education are perceived, the changes in study methods with the obligation of virtual study with new tools, taking into account through convergences and divergences and their link with technology in the education sector

Digital Communication in Universities: Age and Gender in Student Engagement

The objective of this research is to analyze the influence of gender and age on the consumption and perception of university digital media, from a methodological perspective, field research was carried out with the application of structured questionnaires to a sample of students from a public university in Ecuador. The data were subjected to Spearman correlation tests to identify the association between the variables studied. The results suggest that variables such as age and gender show significant differences in relation to the type of content they prefer to consume and the frequency with which they consult social networks. In summary, universities must outline communication strategies to achieve greater acceptance and informative reach by students. © The Author(s), under exclusive license to Springer Nature Switzerland AG 2026.

Ecotourism in Ecuador and the Lack of Cultural Education for Health Benefits

Ecotourism or ecological tourism is a tourist typology that consists of carrying out recreational activities in natural areas with an environmental sustainability approach, the success of ecotourism in recent times lies in the multiple benefits it brings to our health. The objective of our research is focused on highlighting the lack of cultural education on the subject for health benefits through some strategies. The methodology applied has a mixed approach, documentary-bibliographic type through the review of different scientific articles, documents, books, texts and doctoral theses in order to build the state of the art, at the empirical level, we will work with statistical data from secondary sources in national statistical offices. The results reflect the lack of education that Ecuadorian citizens have on the benefits that ecological tourism brings to health and in the conclusions some strategies are recommended to give solutions to the cultural ignorance of people in the ecological field and to materialize education from early ages to achieve a healthy population, free of stress and improve the quality of life of Ecuadorian inhabitants. © 2024, The Author(s), under exclusive license to Springer Nature Switzerland AG.

Cultural routes have become an important income-generating resource for the different countries they pass through. At present, this type of route is promoting a series of activities related to the tourism field and that have drawn special attention from its visitors, this has made the governments of the day develop policies aimed at promoting and implementing actions that allow stimulate the development and economic growth of the rural areas in which they are located. The purpose of this research is to carry out a review of the current and evolutionary status of the contributions made for the enhancement of historical and heritage value of these routes. In the present research, a literature review of the main cultural tourism routes and their contributions to the development of the areas through which they run was carried out. The Academy and the Link with Society: The Case of Business Administration, Indoamérica. Ecuador

The projection of the University towards Society acquires its significant relevance in the search for a higher education with social responsibility, pertinent and with relevance in the formative system of the substantive functions between teaching, research and liaison. The objective of this research is to highlight the main problems of the associations in zone 3 of Ecuador, given its importance in the learning process that allows the insertion of knowledge with social experience. The methodology will incorporate an exploratory descriptive type of research with the participation of sixth semester students of the academic period A23 of the Business Administration career, Universidad Indoamérica Ecuador, through a NEXUS 4D diagnosis, which seeks to collect the necessary information in order to control, improve and detect the shortcomings within the associations. The results obtained showed that the linkage programs and projects have weaknesses in their structuring, since we found problems in the process, the associations do not collaborate with the information, which has led to difficulties in time, in the evolution and development of the work. The document concludes by indicating the fulfillment of the laws and policies of linkage with the community in the Indoamerica University and the performance of the students of the Indoamerica University.

Currently, universities perform a more leading role in economic growth and social progress, as their mission has extended beyond the scientific character and contributes to the promotion and generation of new ventures, through an established link with industries. The role of higher education institutions today is to support and promote entrepreneurial skill in students and staff in general, so that it is transferred to the reality that today's society faces and timely solutions are given to the needs identified through technology transfer in the implementation of a new spin-off or startup. The data analyzed come from the Science, Technology, and Innovation Activities (STIA) survey for the period 2012–2014. The objective of the study was to analyze cooperation for the transfer of technology and knowledge between public and private organizations and companies in Ecuador. The results show that there is greater cooperation with customers and suppliers. In conclusion, despite the existence of policies aimed at cooperation between government, business, and university, no visible results are evident in the Ecuadorian business network. © 2022, The Author(s), under exclusive license to Springer Nature Singapore Pte Ltd.
