Item type:Publication, AI-assisted narrative design: a model of human-AI collaborative creativity in popularizing digital journalism articlesThis article presents an applied case study on a collaborative creativity model between a journalist and a generative artificial intelligence (AI-G) in the weekly production of digital articles for popular science. For 60 weeks, the author published in the Ecuadorian newspaper La Hora a series of texts written from a speculative and educational perspective, accompanied by AI-generated images, designed through prompts designed to complement the narrative approach of each installment. The aim of this research is to analyze how the use of generative AI, consciously integrated by the journalist into their creative process, transforms the dynamics of content production, enhances the symbolic expressiveness of scientific dissemination and configures a replicable model of human-AI co-creation in digital media. The methodology employed follows a longitudinal and qualitative approach, with systematic documentation of the author’s creative workflow. From the selection of the topic, writing the text, designing the prompt, generating and curating the image, to publishing it in a newspaper. The results show that the collaboration with AI made it possible to represent abstract scientific concepts through images with high evocative value, enriching the reading experience and expanding the scope of the texts. The analysis reveals that AI functioned as a generative interlocutor that not only provided visuality, but also influenced the journalist’s language and narrative rhythm, while generating unexpected and suggestive responses. The implications of this model in terms of creative agency, evolution of the author’s abilities to interact with AI, and new ethical challenges around visual authorship and generative aesthetics are discussed. This experience shows that AI can be incorporated into the journalistic exercise not as an automated tool, but as a semiotic collaborator that expands the expressive possibilities of narrative journalism in digital contexts of scientific dissemination. Item type:Publication, Digital Narrative to Strengthen Interculturality in Early ChildhoodThis study analyzes the pedagogical potential of digital narratives in early education, taking as an object of study the animated series Sueños y Colores de Mi País. The main objective is to examine how this audiovisual content contributes to the strengthening of cultural identity and the promotion of interculturality in early childhood. The research adopts a qualitative methodology of documentary review and content analysis, organized into four categories: cultural representation, ethnoeducation, language and use of rhymes, and values and attitudes. The results show that the episodes of the series integrate cultural symbols, linguistic expressions and messages of coexistence that favor meaningful learning, the appreciation of diversity and the socio-emotional development of children. It is concluded that digital narratives, when applied for educational purposes, constitute an effective tool to innovate in pedagogical practices, strengthen cultural identity and generate inclusive attitudes from an early age. © 2026 IEEE. - Some of the metrics are blocked by yourconsent settings
Item type:Publication, Environmental audiovisual narratives in higher education: the music video as a transversal didactic strategy for education for sustainable developmentHigher education institutions are facing a growing challenge: to train professionals who are not only technically competent, but also aware of their responsibility towards environmental sustainability. Despite the urgency of the global climate crisis and the commitments set out in the United Nations 2030 Agenda, sustainability education in universities remains fragmented and rarely integrated as a cross-disciplinary competence. This article examines the pedagogical potential of music videos with explicit environmental messages as digital narratives to foster sustainability awareness among university students, regardless of their field of study. Three video clips were selected from a corpus of twelve candidates, through explicit criteria that include cultural reach, centrality of the environmental message, and pedagogical suitability for higher education. Each case is analyzed through a narrative-environmental-SDG matrix that articulates audiovisual resources, environmental problems represented, responsible agents, scale of impact and links with the Sustainable Development Goals. From the analysis, a conceptual proposal for didactic application is derived in three phases such as pre-visualization, guided audiovisual analysis and professional transfer, based on the theory of significant learning and the pedagogy of digital narratives. The proposal is applicable transversally to university curricula and contributes to the intersection between digital narrative pedagogy and Education for Sustainable Development, identifying a culturally powerful and systematically underutilized resource for sustainability training in higher education. © 2026 Londoño-Proaño and Zurita-Lagos. - Some of the metrics are blocked by yourconsent settings
Item type:Publication, Designing the future: Star Trek as visual culture, speculative design, and imagination activator in human–technology interactionScience fiction audiovisual narratives function as spaces for cultural and design experimentation in which technological interfaces, interactions, and imaginaries are visually articulated before their material realization. From this perspective, the present study aims to analyze Star Trek as a paradigmatic case of visual culture and speculative design, examining how its audiovisual narratives operate as triggers of the imagination that shape expectations about human-technology interaction and contemporary landscapes of communication. The research adopts a qualitative methodology based on non-participant observation and focused audiovisual content analysis, based on the systematic review of episodes of Star Trek: The Original Series and Star Trek: The Next Generation, in order to identify and categorize technological artifacts according to their communicative, interactional and design functions. These representations were later analyzed in a comparative way with technological developments documented through a bibliographic review in specialized databases such as Scopus, Web of Science, Google Scholar. The results show that devices such as portable communicators, voice-controlled interfaces, immersive virtual environments, telepresence systems and diagnostic tools operate as visual and communicative prototypes, influencing interaction paradigms and design expectations present in contemporary technologies. Rather than establishing direct causal relationships, the study concludes that science fiction audiovisual narratives symbolically contribute to technological innovation by mediating meanings, imaginaries, and design logics, positioning Star Trek as a form of speculative design within visual culture that articulates design, communication, and human-technology interaction in contemporary media environments. © 2026 Londoño-Proaño. - Some of the metrics are blocked by yourconsent settings
Item type:Publication, Digital science fiction as a narrative mediator for STEM motivation in elementary education: a mixed-methods studyThis study aims to analyze the impact of the digital science fiction story “The Infinite Name of the Stars” on motivation toward STEM (science, technology and mathematics) subjects in elementary school students. A mixed approach was applied, combining a quasi-experimental pretest-posttest quantitative design with ethnographic observation in the classroom. The sample has 110 students. The quantitative results showed a stable and positive attitude toward science, with slight increases in curiosity, taste for mathematics and preference for science fiction narrative materials. The qualitative findings revealed enthusiasm, imagination and symbolic appropriation, expressed in dramatizations, infographics, and drawings. The triangulation of the findings suggests that science fiction narrative favors meaningful learning by connecting emotion, imagination, and scientific knowledge. Item type:Publication, The teaching of physics from cinema: an epistemological proposal with the film Interstellar(2025)This article explores the potential of science fiction cinema, specifically Christopher Nolan's film Interstellar, as a didactic resource for the teaching of physics and the development of scientific thinking. The main objective is to design a theoretically based didactic proposal that allows teaching both specific content and the epistemological dimension of scientific knowledge. It has a qualitative methodology, based on a content analysis, focused on selected scenes from the film, organized into three categories: representation of scientific knowledge, relationship between science and society, and implicit epistemology. The results show that Interstellar allows complex concepts to be represented in an accessible and critical way, as well as to generate spaces for reflection on the nature and limits of scientific knowledge. It is concluded that the systematic use of cinema in the classroom favors interdisciplinary learning, fosters critical scientific literacy and opens new possibilities for a more contextualized, reflective and formative teaching of physics. Item type:Publication, Digital Guide to Educational Podcasts for High School Teachers(2025)This study explores the perception of the effectiveness of a didactic guide designed to facilitate the creation of educational podcasts by secondary school teachers in Ecuador, in response to the growing need for innovative pedagogical tools in the digital context. The research was carried out under a quantitative and qualitative approach, combining structured surveys applied to 30 teachers and in-depth interviews to obtain a detailed vision of the perception and usefulness of the guide. The results reflect a positive acceptance of the didactic guide for the creation of podcasts, considered by teachers as an innovative tool in the classroom. Although some teachers lack prior experience in podcast production, they valued the accessibility and clarity of the guide, highlighting the tutorials as key support. It is concluded that the didactic guide contributes to improving the technological skills of teachers, promoting a more dynamic and inclusive learning environment and fostering a positive attitude towards the integration of digital resources in education. In addition, there is evidence of a limitation in the technical skills of teachers, given that less than fifty percent have had experience in producing a podcast autonomously. Item type:Publication, Sci-Fi Digital Narratives in the Classroom: Black Mirror's “Be Right Back” Case(2024)This study examines the use of digital science fiction narratives, specifically the episode 'Be Right Back' of Black Mirror, as a pedagogical tool in the classroom. The aim is to analyze how these narratives can encourage critical and ethical reflection in students on issues of technology and humanity. Through non-participant observation, a content analysis was carried out focused on the ethical and emotional aspects of the episode. Item type:Publication, Production of Video Clips by Indigenous Artists(2026); Fernando EndaraThe video clip has been adapted to the digital environment and has gained popularity on platforms such as YouTube. This study analyzes the technocumbia video clips of indigenous artists in Ecuador, using a mixed methodology to observe their production and cultural representation. The findings show that these video clips, in addition to entertaining, serve as commercial vehicles that incorporate indigenous cultural symbols, such as Andean landscapes, traditional dress, and the use of the Kwichua language. The research concludes that these video clips combine tradition and modernity, contributing to cultural self-representation and intercultural communication on the internet12
