Adaptive Learning Platforms and Their Influence on Higher Education: A Scoping Review

Over the past decade, adaptive learning platforms have transformed higher education by adjusting content and activities based on students’ abilities and progress. This approach personalizes learning and optimizes academic performance, particularly in complex disciplines such as engineering and science. However, challenges remain related to their technological implementation and acceptance by both students and educators. This scoping review analyzes the impact of adaptive learning platforms in higher education, focusing on their influence on academic performance, student motivation, practical implementation challenges, and future implications for research. An exploratory literature review was conducted using the PRISMA-ScR method, identifying recent studies published between 2019 and 2024 in databases such as ERIC, Scopus, IEEE Xplore, Web of Science, and APA PsycNet. Quantitative and qualitative research studies were selected, evaluating the impact of these platforms in university settings and the outcomes they produce. The results indicate that adaptive learning platforms significantly enhance academic performance by providing personalized experiences and immediate feedback. They also increase student motivation and engagement, particularly in online learning environments. However, challenges were identified, including the need for adequate technological infrastructure and specialized training for educators. Adaptive learning platforms hold transformative potential in higher education but require overcoming technological and pedagogical barriers. Further qualitative research is recommended to better understand user experiences and maximize their effectiveness across diverse educational contexts.

Implementation of Itinerant Classrooms as an Educational Strategy for Pedagogical Knowledge Recovery in Basic Education Students

The global COVID-19 pandemic resulted in academic setbacks due to the loss of learning, the effects of which began to become evident during the progressive return to in-person classes, highlighting the need to work on re-education processes. This study examines the effectiveness of itinerant classrooms in facilitating learning recovery among Basic Education students following the impact of the COVID-19 pandemic. A pedagogical support intervention was implemented for 304 students across educational institutions nationwide. A quasi-experimental design with a quantitative approach was employed, utilizing pre-test and post-test assessments to evaluate mathematics performance. The results demonstrated a significant improvement in student grades after the intervention, with the complete elimination of scores in the lower range. These findings underscore the effectiveness of itinerant classrooms as a mobile educational strategy that addresses the needs of students in marginalized communities. The research highlights the importance of an inclusive approach to pedagogical recovery, promoting collaboration among educators, psychologists, and families to comprehensively address academic underachievement.

Impact of Educational Technology on Enhancing Children’s Competencies in Mobile Classrooms

Technology can be used as an effective strategy to enhance cognitive, motor, and linguistic skills in children of all ages. However, its implementation in itinerant contexts, where resources and infrastructure are limited, poses a challenge. This study addressed this issue by evaluating the effectiveness of an educational intervention based on educational technology in itinerant classrooms. A quasi-experimental design was conducted with 128 children, using a pre-test and post-test to measure the impact on 17 competencies, such as visuomotor coordination, visual memory, and attention. The 17 competencies were evaluated using standardized tools designed to measure aspects such as visuomotor coordination, visual memory, attention, motor skills, visual perception, and linguistic abilities. The evaluation results were used to identify difficulties and the need for pedagogical support, enabling detailed tracking of each child’s development. Over the course of 8 weeks, five digital educational tools, such as Mundo Primaria and Minecraft, were used and adapted to be appropriate for the children’s ages and needs. The results showed significant improvements in all the competencies evaluated, indicating that technology can serve as a catalyst for children’s cognitive abilities even in unconventional environments. Itinerant classrooms benefited from the flexibility and adaptability of technological resources, enabling them to overcome the typical physical and logistical limitations of these contexts. The integration of educational technology in early childhood education is highly effective and can offer a viable solution to improve the learning outcomes of primary school students.

Impact of the pandemic on school dropout: Multidimensional analysis

This study, driven by the need to identify the reasons why primary and secondary school students drop out of their studies pre and post-pandemic, with both endogenous and exogenous causes. The main objective was to analyze the impact of the pandemic on student dropout. An interpretive paradigm with qualitative methods was employed, including qualitative content analysis, and a systematic literature review was conducted using various inclusion and exclusion criteria. The main results revealed that the abrupt shift from in-person to virtual education led to student dropout, as traditional teaching methods attempted to adapt to new technologies, and many teachers encountered technological barriers related to geographical location, economics, among others. In conclusion, student dropout is a global issue influenced by various factors and variables that have led to different models aimed at reducing or eradicating it. © 2023 IEEE.

Non-formal Virtual Training Strategies to Promote Entrepreneurship

In the current context, entrepreneurship requires extensive knowledge for proper development. In Latin America, the lack of expertise in areas such as marketing and financial management leads to a high rate of business failure. This study addresses this issue by implementing a virtual learning environment called Emprende Virtual, designed to promote sustainable entrepreneurship through masterclasses and practical activities. The methodology used was a quantitative approach with an experimental design. A total of 59 participants were divided into two groups: an experimental group that received training through the digital resource of the virtual environment and a control group that received no intervention. Pre- and post-test surveys were conducted to measure the impact of the virtual learning environment on the participants’ entrepreneurial attitude, knowledge and skills. The results showed a significant improvement in the experimental group compared to the control group, especially in areas such as educational technology, innovation and entrepreneurship, and business management. This demonstrates that the strategy not only facilitates access to education but also contributes to the development of essential skills for business success, promoting sustainability and economic growth. Despite limitations such as the lack of geographical representativeness and variability in prior experience, the VLE proves to be an effective tool for developing entrepreneurs in the region.

Factors Influencing University Dropout in Distance Learning: A Case Study

In the field of higher education in Ecuador, there is a phenomenon where students abandon the career, they were initially enrolled in. This research article aims to identify the determining factors that influence dropout, analyzing sociodemographic variables and economic, technological, institutional, and academic variables. The methodology used is action research built from educational practice. A survey was used to address several factors applied to 260 students of the second, fourth, and seventh levels of undergraduate study at a private institution. As a result, it was found that the most determining factor for a student to abandon their university career in the distance mode, with 72.31%, is the economic factor. Finally, it is concluded that students' permanence is affected mainly by socioeconomic aspects, which cause economic resources, illness, lack of time, and academic performance to be the most representative factors when deciding whether to remain or abandon a university career. This information increases the bibliography that deals with student behavior to search for alternatives to work on students' permanence. © 2023, North American Business Press. All rights reserved.
