    Tourism in Ecuadorian context contributes to 2% GDP’s country, it has great potential for growth and exploitation thanks to geographical, natural, cultural, heritage and social factors, among others. These resources are very attractive for internal and external tourism. Baños de Agua Santa, is one of main destinations for local tourists and visitors. Its geographical location, climate and volcanic, mountainous and fluvial landforms have made the place a great interest tourist center. The natural attractions have given way to inhabitant’s initiative for man-made tourist attractions creation, a category part of World Tourism Organization UNWTO classification”. In this way, “Dinosaurs Park” analysis is presented, a theme park, man-made tourist place, which is mainly supported on ICT use, multimedia, offline web APPs and augmented reality AR, for playful learning experiences generation about prehistoric species not native from the area. The AR Through a mixed, quantitative and qualitative approach, information has been obtained on theme park visitors use and satisfaction showing over 90% of positive ratings. The AR applied in theme park, through mobile devices, shows information about prehistoric species, generating entertainment family experiences and significant knowledge in visitors.     Extensive Green Facades as an Alternative to the Lack of Urban Greenery
    The accelerated process of urbanization has intensified the loss of natural green areas, directly affecting the quality of life in cities. Semi-natural infrastructures, such as green facades, do not replace natural ecosystems but can mitigate their impacts by providing ecosystem services. This study is based on the hypothesis that the implementation of self-built extensive green facades, using local substrates and a mixture of native and adapted species, constitutes an accessible alternative that urban residents can construct and maintain themselves. Within this framework, the research 2 question is posed: How does the combination of support system type and plant species influence the ecological performance of extensive green facades in Andean urban contexts? Which climatic and construction-related factors determine the economic viability and ease of maintenance and self-construction of extensive green facades? The article is structured in two phases: first, a theoretical review of recent literature on extensive green facades, and second, an experimental phase involving self-built modules implemented in the city of Quito. The results show that, at least under the described climatic conditions—characterized by high solar radiation, prolonged water deficit, and wind gusts reaching up to 4.2 m/s—the selected plant species (<jats:italic>Common Ivy, Passiflora mixta</jats:italic>, and <jats:italic>Pyrostegia venusta</jats:italic>) achieved similar coverage levels during the study period, ranging from 30% to 20% between months 3 and 7, with installation costs below 41 USD per square meter. These findings highlight the feasibility of affordable systems for urban greening and their potential role in promoting resilient and inclusive development, particularly in highly variable Andean climates. However, further research is needed to assess their long-term impact on urban biodiversity, as well as their sustained structural and ecological performance over time.

    Tiktok as a Learning Tool for Elementary School Students

    The large number of users of the social network Tiktok worldwide and the studies that demonstrate the advantages of its use in relation to its educational capacity encourage us to seek new ways of teaching. The present study was conducted at the Indoamerica Educational University in the city of Ambato-Ecuador during the 2021–2022 school year, comparing the motivation of students of General Basic Education: specifically, Basic Middle (Sublevel 3): fifth, sixth and seventh grade corresponding to boys and girls of 9, 10 and 11 years old respectively, and the use of Tiktok as a learning tool demonstrated in their academic performance. Group A has used Tiktok as a tool for the development of academic activities, while group B has not used it. A quantitative methodology was used with a descriptive-inferential procedure and a qualitative analysis through interviews with educators. A pre-test and a post-test were carried out to demonstrate the children's motivation at the end of the school year. It is confirmed that the children who used Tiktok as a learning tool consider themselves more motivated and show a greater dedication to the proposed subject matter than children who do not use it, which is evidenced in their academic record.     This article proposes an analysis of the policies and strategies of the city of Quito for the development of urban green, for which the climate action plan of Quito and the plans to be fulfilled until 2030 have been reviewed, as well as the metropolitan corridor and its potential as a green corridor, after this the characteristics of the sector “La Argelia” have been analyzed. as an example of the characteristics of the peripheral neighborhoods of Quito, in order to show the potential that this type of environment has for the development of urban green, in this case from an urban agriculture approach, which could also provide these spaces not only with an economy, but with a circular metabolism, that contributes to the development of the neighborhood and the city. © 2023, The Author(s), under exclusive license to Springer Nature Switzerland AG.

    The Fractional Brownian Model, Applied in the Credit Placement of the Popular and Solidarity Financial Sector
    Previous studies have extensively explored the application of Fractional Brownian Motion in the financial systems of countries. The objective of this study was to evaluate the effectiveness of using Fractional Brownian Motion in credit placement within the popular and solidarity financial sector, specifically in the Savings and Credit Cooperatives of segment 1.A comprehensive analysis was conducted on historical credit placement data from this sector over time, and the Fractional Brownian Motion model was implemented to simulate placement patterns. Several parameters, such as the Hurst exponent, were estimated. The results showed that the application of Fractional Brownian Motion in credit placement within the popular and solidarity financial sector improved the accuracy of credit risk assessment. It revealed long-term dependence patterns and captured the inherent dynamics of the sector. The model demonstrated higher predictive power and better portfolio risk management capabilities compared to conventional methods. The findings suggest that Fractional Brownian Motion is a valuable tool for credit placement analysis, as well as for improving credit risk assessment and portfolio management dynamics. Implementing this model can lead to more accurate credit decisions, fostering the country's economic development. © 2023 IEEE.

    Ancestral Gastronomic Knowledge: A Key to Boost Tourism in Ecuador

    Globalization has had a significant impact on local cultures around the world, especially evident in Ecuador, where the rich tapestry of traditional gastronomy plays a crucial role in defining the nation’s identity; as the world becomes more interconnected, Ecuador’s younger generation, like their counterparts in many developing countries, is increasingly leaning toward foreign cuisines, often perceived as more modern or trendy. This shift not only neglects the diverse culinary heritage specific to various Ecuadorian regions, but also undermines the potential of traditional foods to attract tourists seeking authentic experiences. Ecuadorian gastronomy, with its unique flavors and textures, offers a window into the country’s cultural practices and history, making it an integral part of the tourism industry, but the gradual loss of this culinary heritage as local preferences evolve poses a threat not only to cultural identity, but also to the economic benefits derived from gastronomic tourism. Using the literature review method, this study collected and analyzed data from various documents highlighting the importance of local cuisine to the tourism sector. The results underline the need to strategically focus on revitalizing and promoting traditional Ecuadorian dishes to counter the influence of global food trends; also, the research delved into the reasons for young people’s inclination toward foreign cultures, suggesting a disconnection with their own cultural roots. It critically examined how this distancing could be reversed by fostering a deeper appreciation and understanding of local traditions. By promoting a reconnection with their gastronomic past, Ecuadorians can leverage their rich culinary heritage as a key asset to boost tourism. This not only enhances the authenticity and attractiveness of the tourism experience, but also supports local economies. Ultimately, the study confirms that preserving and celebrating ancestral gastronomy can play a critical role in sustaining tourism and maintaining cultural identity in the face of globalization.

    Thermography applied to buildings as an opportunity to detect thermal bridges. Case study: Ambato, Ecuador

    This research analyses the existence of thermal bridges in an urban context located at 2700 meters above sea level based on the analysis of thermal images of buildings taken in different ambient temperature conditions. The objective of this research is to expand and update the spectrum of analysis and detection of thermal bridges in an urban context, where environmental conditions change and increasingly reach higher and lower extreme peaks of temperature, which is why it is necessary to establish strategies for mitigation of thermal bridges and stabilization of internal temperatures, the materiality of the building envelope plays a very important role in this study. The methodology applied in this research is of mixed approach, qualitative in relation to the analysis and collection of information with thermal cards and photographs, and quantitative due to the comparison of thermal data obtained from the analysis and energy simulation of the case study. The qualitative results were obtained through the collection of thermographic information, the simulation of the house and focus on the detection of temperature leaks in an urban context of a building built in 2019 with contemporary materials and construction systems, the quantitative results were obtained from the energy simulation, which helped determine the failures in the envelope and thus could improve the energy performance of the building. The study concludes that currently, in spite of knowing the impact generated by climate change, improvements in the configuration of the envelope available in the market are not considered, which generates a negative impact on the perception of thermal comfort inside the building, it is also important to emphasize the importance of energy simulation in construction and design, since this helps to detect problems before building and to be more optimal when remodelling buildings

    Smart Signage with Augmented Reality: Inclusive Coworking
    This project focuses on the implementation of augmented reality signage designed to enhance user experience in a coworking space. The signage integrates 2D animations and virtual tours to provide an intuitive and immersive experience, from entry to the desired destination within the establishment. At the main entrance, a totem with a coworking directory features a QR code that visitors can scan to access an interactive directory. The 2D animations, thoughtfully designed with an inclusive approach, utilize validated corporate colors to ensure accessibility, especially for individuals with color vision deficiencies. Each business in the coworking space is identified by a unique corporate color, and internal business floor plans use analogous colors, adjusted to maintain aesthetic coherence and accessibility. In addition to being an effective navigation tool, these animations reinforce the visual identity of the coworking space. Each business within the establishment has an interactive virtual tour that guides visitors from entry to their final destination, providing real-time visual information for effective orientation. The signage system is based on WordPress to offer a seamless and efficient experience without the need to download a specific application. Upon scanning the QR code, users are redirected to a mobile-optimized web page. This page not only provides access to the 2D animations and virtual tours but also offers useful information such as business hours, links to the businesses’ and coworking space's social media, and other relevant details for the visit. This augmented reality signage approach not only enhances the functionality of the space but also ensures that all visitors, regardless of their needs, enjoy an inclusive and efficient experience in the coworking space.

    Health and Educational Impacts Reduction Using a Supervisory Control and Data Acquisition Web System

    We present the design and implementation of a Supervisory Control and Data Acquisition SCADA web system of pollution factors such as Nitrogen Dioxide (NO2), Carbon Dioxide (CO2) and Carbon Monoxide (CO) in order to manage them, providing comfort in indoor environments. The SCADA web system allows a comparative analysis of the recorded information with the alert, alarm and emergency levels, established in the Ecuadorian air quality regulations, annex 4 of Book VI of the Unified Legislation of Secondary Legislation of the Ministry of the Environment., The SCADA web system performs the comparison of the registered information, with the physical agents of environmental comfort, established in the ASHRAE (American Society of Heating, Refrigerating, and Air-Conditioning Engineers) standards. In the process of stabilization of the pollution factors, in indoor environments, air ionizers are used, which emit negative ions to maintain the standardized range in micrograms per cubic meter (3). Finally, we have been able to develop a SCADA web system for controlling pollution factors in indoor environments thanks to the integration of firebase (Android Studio), authentication (Facebook), notification (Database and Web Server), control and monitoring (Android Studio) interfaces. Besides, the SCADA web system allows preventing long term health problems such as allergic reactions, physical exhaustion and respiratory diseases, which influence academic performance during study days in educational institutions. © 2018 IEEE.

    Thermal Comfort in Two Housing Typologies in the Andean Region of Ecuador: Cotopaxi Province

    In Ecuador, rural housing in the Andean region has limitations in its implementation and construction, which lacks technical criteria. This is due to scarce research considering the geographical and climatic conditions and the characteristics of construction materials suitable for this type of housing. This study analyzes the thermal comfort of two cases of study located in the Province of Cotopaxi, Ecuador. This location's altitude exceeds 2,900 MASL, and the average temperature ranges between 12°C and -3°C. The selected samples are two predominant single-family housing typologies in the region: the first, with a traditional construction system and the second, with a conventional system. This study has three main parts: in-situ data collection with measurement equipment, user interviews, and software simulations to obtain thermal data. The first phase, data collection and interviews, facilitate the analysis of discomfort hours and operating temperature (OT) of the current state of the housing. These first results allowed the second phase of this study, which is simulation. In this part, modifications of materiality and carpentry were proposed. The results show significant improvements in thermal comfort. Housing 1 increases by 14% of OT, and Housing 2 increases by 23% of O. T. Both study cases show a significant reduction in the discomfort hours. This research's main conclusion is that adequate material management through software simulation can contribute to innovative solutions for thermal comfort.
