Risk of Social Media In University Students in the City of Quito

Social networks have become digital spaces that are now an essential part of young people's lives, changing the way they relate, interact, and engage in online conversations. Excessive use of social media can significantly impact daily life, potentially leading to symptoms of depression, anxiety, and behavioral addiction. The aim of this study was to analyze the risk of social media addiction among young people. A descriptive study was conducted with a sample of 274 young individuals aged 18 to 25, comprising 141 women and 133 men, who were assessed using the Social Media Addiction Questionnaire (ARS). The results showed that 45% of the participants had a moderate addiction risk, 29% had a high risk, 22% had a low risk, and 4% had a very high risk. These findings are consistent with previous research highlighting the impact of social media on young people's mental health.
