Adaptive Learning Environments: Integrating Artificial Intelligence for Special Education Advances

2024 , Jadán Guerrero, Janio , Karla Tamayo-Narvaez , Elena Méndez , María Valenzuela

Students with special educational needs are confronted with various barriers that restrict their learning and performance in the educational environment. The lack of accessible and adapted educational resources tailored to their needs based on their disability negatively impacts their ability to interact effectively with both teachers and peers. In this context, Artificial Intelligence emerges as a promising solution to overcome some of these educational barriers by offering personalized tools, speech recognition technologies, and text-to-voice conversion technologies that allow students with disabilities to communicate seamlessly. Artificial Intelligence not only addresses the challenges mentioned previously but also opens up new possibilities for more effective learning and an enriching educational experience. The integration of these technologies could represent a significant advancement towards the creation of more accessible and egalitarian educational environments. This article focuses on identifying challenges from the perspective of teachers and parents, proposing the implementation of adapted educational resources using artificial intelligence. To establish a reference base for the needs and problems of students, a survey was conducted with the participation of 66 teachers and 112 parents in two developing countries, Ecuador and Guatemala. The results obtained offer an opportunity to improve student education by identifying possible solutions in adapting resources and promoting inclusion through the implementation of Artificial Intelligence. A recurring challenge in both countries is the lack of adequate infrastructure, specialized tools, inclusive methodologies, and software to facilitate the learning process in educational institutions.

2024 , Jadán Guerrero, Janio , Patricia Acosta Vargas , Nivia Esther Gutiérrez-De Gracia

This article provides a systematic guide for integrating Artificial Intelligence (AI) into many facets of scientific writing process. By analyzing various AI platforms that facilitate efficient topic identification, the formulation of investigative questions, the analysis of previous literature, data processing, structuring and presentation of manuscripts, the successful case of a training program implemented at a university in Ecuador. This initiative involved 84 academics, of which 66 managed to complete their scientific articles, with 35 of these works accepted at a recognized scientific conference. This case highlights the relevance of a deep understanding of the potential of AI to complement and enhance human research and writing capabilities. It seeks to provide an integrative approach to scientific research that optimizes the benefits of this emerging technology. This research emphasizes the need to promote writing where ethics and originality standards are the priority, thus ensuring the integrity and authenticity of the knowledge created in the scientific community.

Future Prospects for the Application of Artificial Intelligence in Judicial Management

2024 , Diego Andrade A , Moisés Toapanta T , Zharayth Gómez D , Enrique Mafla G. , Antonio Orizaga T , Jadán Guerrero, Janio

The problems in judicial management persist regarding the applicability of artificial intelligence (AI) systems. Currently, they have become a challenge as they lack legal foundation and legitimacy, given that to date, only a minimal number of countries have laws addressing the supervision, regulation, management, and control of AI system applicability in judicial settings. The objective of this research is to analyze the future perspectives of the applicability of Artificial Intelligence in Judicial Management. The method employed will be exploratory research to analyze information from reviewed articles, legal reports, and official websites. Possible indicators of issues in AI applicability in judicial management, current and future trends of AI in judicial management, and an appropriate conceptual model for AI applicability in judicial management were identified. It was concluded that the application of artificial intelligence in judicial management remains a challenge and an ongoing issue because it currently does not inspire confidence in decision-making processes.

Promoting Water Culture Through Augmented Reality and Gamified Experiences

2025 , Jadán Guerrero, Janio , Arias Flores, Hugo Patricio , Piedra Ansatuña, Mario , Marcos Chacón-Castro

This article examines the design and development process of interactive and immersive learning environments focused on conservation, management and responsible use of water. Using the Game Thinking methodology, interdisciplinary groups were formed, consisting of students from three different Master’s programs, along with designers, programmers, experts from the Quito Metropolitan Public Water and Sanitation Company (EPMAPS), and members of Foundation for the Support of Sustainable Development in Ecuador (FADSE). A total of 135 participants contributed diverse perspectives in education, user experience, technology, and sustainability. The objective was to develop proposals that would connect with children, young people, and adults to raise awareness about responsible water use, the consequences of waste, the contamination of water sources and simulate the consequences of water decisions in urban and rural environments. The study demonstrated that master’s students can play a significant role in addressing real urban challenges and that, when properly guided, their ideas can lead to innovative solutions aligned with emerging technologies. The developed solutions were evaluated by the students themselves alongside their peers, revealing that interactive tools not only promote active participation but also strengthen the emotional connection with the new water culture. Furthermore, the project emphasized accessibility, scalability, and cultural relevance, ensuring inclusive and sustainable educational solutions. In the future, the study will aim to assess the impact of these initiatives on public awareness and behavior.
