Item type:Publication, Electronic Word of Mouth and Sustainability: A Bibliometric Approach(Springer Nature Switzerland, 2026); ; ; Guadalupe-Lanas, JorgeElectronic word of mouth (eWOM) is a type of human-computer interaction that comprises simple, two-way communication, disseminating information about companies, brands, and products through digital spaces. Given the significant interest in eWOM, various extant studies have sought to structure this field of study through a bibliometric approach. As the literature on eWOM has continued to grow, bibliometric studies on eWOM have begun to be specialized. Following this line of work, the present bibliometric study seeks to unravel eWOM’s structure as it applies to sustainability, a topic of great current importance. Using the Scopus database, 1,968 documents were identified. Descriptive and productivity analyses characterize the field of eWOM and sustainability as a rapidly growing and multidisciplinary field, in which China and the United States stand out in the literature. Science mapping analyses have identified four clusters of terms associated with research lines: 1) human behavior in eWOM, 2) social aspects of eWOM and sustainability, 3) eWOM’s impact on sustainability and tourism, and 4) eWOM’s technological aspects and measurement. The overlay visualization of term analysis reveals an evolution in research interest, progressing from technological aspects, through economic and behavioral aspects, to the current emphasis on sustainability and tourism. Finally, this study discusses these results’ implications for theory and practice. © The Author(s), under exclusive license to Springer Nature Switzerland AG 2026. - Some of the metrics are blocked by yourconsent settings
Item type:Publication, Consumer Behavior in Electronic Word of Mouth: A Bibliometric Approach(2025); ; ;Ekaterina Zabelina ;Olga DeynekaElectronic word of mouth (eWOM) is a consumer behavior that involves the dissemination of communications about brands, products, and companies with clear positive or negative valence. eWOM is attracting great attention from academics and practitioners, which is reflected in the growing number of publications on the subject. Thus, the present study aims to contribute to the organization and description of this knowledge through the use of bibliometric techniques. This study analyzes a documentary corpus of 2,331 eWOM documents existing in the Scopus database. The descriptive analysis of this body of documents confirms a rapid growth in the pace of publication. The data further highlight eWOM as a multidisciplinary academic field with a center of gravity in business, management, and accounting. However, the analysis shows a great predominance of institutions and researchers from developed and emerging countries. The analysis of the co-occurrence of terms leads to the identification of three thematic clusters: (1) search and use of eWOM by the consumer, (2) the consumer’s experience and satisfaction in the consumption of services, and (3) the consumer behavior in the generation of eWOM. The analysis of the overlay visualization of terms allows us to verify an evolution in research interest from the orientation to lay the theoretical foundations of eWOM to the current interest in delving into search behavior and the use of eWOM in decision making. Finally, the present study formulates the theoretical and practical implications of these findings.26
